Funding pot open to small community groups

Small community groups in Shetland can bid for grants of up to £5,000 from a funding stream opening to applications on 1st December.

The Small Grant Scheme from Shetland Charitable Trust (SCT) aims to reduce inequality and social exclusion in island life, which is a key goal of all the trust’s grant aid.

The funding pot for 2022-23 is £100,000, having more than trebled in size last year. Seventeen charities obtained grants from this enhanced scheme during 2021.

The Small Grant Scheme can provide up to 75 per cent of project costs. The scheme is open to constituted community groups with a turnover of less than £50,000 a year, operating in social care and welfare, arts and culture, heritage and the environment or sport and recreation.

SCT chair Dr Andrew Cooper said: “This is the second year we’ve had a bigger budget for this scheme. We want to see it helping small groups meet their day-to-day challenges or perhaps to extend their services to more folk in the community.”

The closing date for applications is 26th January 2022 with successful bidders expected to receive their grants in April.

Application forms and further details of the new-look Small Grant Scheme will be available on the trust’s website at www.shetlandcharitabletrust.co.uk or by emailing  grants@shetlandcharitabletrust.co.uk
