Local groups in line for £8.7m payout by Shetland Charitable Trust

Grants worth £8.7 million have been awarded to 27 projects and charitable organisations by Shetland Charitable Trust (SCT) for next year.

The lion’s share of the assistance agreed by trustees meeting on Thursday will go to the three big trusts, securing core funding worth £5.25m between them. Shetland Recreational Trust is to receive £3.3m with Shetland Amenity Trust getting £1.23m and £716,600 going to Shetland Arts Development Agency.

The second biggest single award goes to help keep the higher standard of community care that Shetland enjoys. The £1.99m is provided to Shetland Islands Council to enhance the service it provides in the care centres and the community.

Full details of all the other grant recipients, including many charities in the voluntary sector, will be released next week once the successful applicants have been informed.

SCT says it aims to “benefit and improve the quality of life of all people living in Shetland and to preserve the trust reserves for future generations”.
