New faces join district heating company

Shetland Heat Energy & Power Ltd (SHEAP) has strengthened its management board with the addition of two new directors.

Colin Clark, who lives in Gulberwick, and Neil Fraser, of Quarff, join four other non-executive directors and executive director Derek Leask on the board of the company which supplies district heating to properties in Lerwick.

The appointments were approved today by Shetland Charitable Trust, which owns SHEAP as one of its local investments to generate funds to spend on services and charitable projects across Shetland.

Established in 1998, SHEAP heats more than 1200 homes and buildings, including schools, the hospital, care homes and the Clickimin Centre.

The heat comes from piped water from Shetland Islands Council’s Energy Recovery Plant which incinerates unrecyclable waste which would otherwise be buried in landfill sites at higher cost and higher emissions of climate-changing gases.
